Administrators:
Mrs. Villegas, Mr. Spurlock-Dean, Dr.Marks-AP, & Mr. James-AP Encourage, support teachers in campus goals concerning technology. Increase technology prioritizing core subjects and reaching electives. Administrators are the leaders and visionaries. Their influence drives a campus. Regularly and as soon as possible administrators will allot resources, provide trainings to teachers.
Math, Science, & Social Studies teachers proficient in SmartBoard & Infocus technology Math teachers will train English department, SS will train Required Electives, and Science will train other electives on Smart Board, & InFocus technology. All teachers will be able and ready to utilize current technology on our campus even if they do not have it in every classroom. As soon as possible and ongoing so that newly trained can then teach to teachers new to the campus.
Community Liasons: Mrs. Velasquez and Mr. Johnson Set up and monitor ParentPortal, a tool for parents to access student grades, attendance, teacher email links. Community liaisons are our active link to sustaining or rebuilding connections with parents when contact information is useless. They go out into the field. The Assistant Prinicpal overlooking the community liaisons will report to the principal and school on progress. ParentPortal is a seldom used but valuable tool.
Teachers Regularly use available technology in instruction. Incorporate all possible and available technology with and for student learning. All teachers are confident and proficient in regularly using technology beyond email for instruction. Teachers will include technology in lesson plans. Dean of Instruction and administrators will monitor progress through ten minute and PDAS walk-through evaluations.
Students will utilize technology in all subjects by presentations and projects. All students are expected to have an appropriate email and be trained on cyber ethics in academia and social arena. Students will gain comfort and confidence with technology as to prepare themselves for global expectations. All students must be trained and educated well in technology. Email and attachments are not enough. We need to digital natives that are skilled in problem solving and critical thinking. Early, regularly throughout the school year.
Parents & guardians We want to encourage parent involvement. We want to facilitate parental access to their child’s education. We the school must proactively educate our parents. The vision is to have efficient and regular communication of student work/progress with parents. We can avoid disrupting days or work if we can set up, maintain and ensure active, regular technology tools in communicating with parents. Every year & ongoing training. We must start early.
I will blog with classmates to reflect as we embark through this internship to educational administration

LRPT WK2 BLOG#1
In reading the Long Range Plan for Technology report, Texas has done a superb job of identifying areas of improvement and knowledge for educators. The LRPT’s four areas are Teaching and Learning, Educators Preparation & Development, learshi, Admin,& Instructional Support, and Infrastructure for Technology which respectively address what learners, educators, leaders, and instructure provides or should know& do. I wanted to address the Teaching and Learning area because we should be a learner-centered practices, however we must invest and develop our teachers appropriately so that we can focus on learner needs.
From 2007 to 2010, my campus has declined in Educator Preparation and Development. We are currently at Developing Tech. I find this strange because my first two years there in 2007 and 2008 we were using paper attendance sheets and gradebooks. Technology is more regular part of the business day. We are all “highly-qualified” certified teachers but we are not acceptable in reference to “ensuring the integration of appropriate technology throughout all of curriculum and instruction.” (LRPT, November 2006)
My recommendations for improvement are to first allow all teachers to acknowledge their level ratings. Then, find teachers who are using technology at the advanced and Target Tech levels and use their knowledge and skill as inspiration for teachers at the Early and Developing Tech levels. Next I would collaborate with ways all other disciplines can increase technology in the classroom but respective to their discipline. There is not much more annoying than to sit through a development that applies only to math teachers. I would like for all teachers to even build on cross curriculum ideas so that our students can do projects together, using technology and real world relevant practices.

The Long Range Plan for Technology report is 112 page document that lays out the vision, the data behind the vision and the steps by which Texas will accomplish academic technology goals. The all-encompassing plan addresses students, parents, educators, and community members and the importance of digital education. From 2006 to 2020, Texas will take steps to evaluating the incorporation of more technology in the classroom. There are three phases and we just entered phase II 2011-2015. Phase III is 2016-2020 and the article says we must make continuous improvements no matter what level we are. We use the STaR Chart to evaluate our current practices. The STaR Chart has four levels; Early Tech, Developing Tech, Advanced Tech, and Target Tech. Our goal is for all teachers to be at the Advanced and Target Tech levels.
I agree with almost every aspect of the plan expansion and extension of eductors and resources may be necessary though not traditional. I did question when the plan mentioned expanding the scholastic age. I also wondered how are university level professors and programs adjusting to this shift. I believe that extending academics in the home through technology is probably the only way (at my school) that some educators will ever be able to incorporate homework and parents. I do not remember completing SBEC’s expectations of teachers with technology so I think we should as administrators, revisit and gently remind ourselves of those expectations. I do not even know if once we accomplish them, we are done. I question that because the STaR Chart is an annual survey we do so we can at least remind ourselves how we progress or not in technology. What is the accountability system when STaR Charts are stagnant and nonprogressive. In the perfect world, teachers would be self accountable but that is not a reality. Every year, the STaR Chart reminds me how pathetic I am in technology with my students. I am fine for myself but I am not the learner.

NETP 5352 WK2 post #3
The National Educational Technology Plan or NETP, as propsed by the United States government is intensely aggressive and challenging. I believe that in order for our great nation to remain competitive and strong, such a rigorous plan is necessary. There are two main goals that the plan seeks to accomplish in education. First, we must raise our percentage of degreed Americans from 39% to 60% in the Associates and Bachelor levels. Second, we must “close the achievement gap” of all students, ensuring that our high school graduates are college and career ready.
The NETP is credible and as an educator I will do my part to helping our nation reach these goals. It names five areas in which to monitor, create and asses our goals for the 21st century learner; Learning, assessment, teaching, infrastructure and productivity. These national recommendations can be seen in our state goals of the Long Range Plan for Technology (LRPT) for Texas. This alignment makes us more apt for success because we are moving toward same goals. Among our many duties as educational leaders, we must prepare our educators and develop our students into teaching and learning with the understanding of the significance our this technological/digital era of today and the future. As we work towards these national and state goals, we will begin to create a stronger economy because we have 21st century ready learners.
I believe that the plan is passionate and necessary. I believe that we must start with educators and the development of educator preparation and expertise. I think this is where the gap is because if educators were beyond comfortable but confident in technology, then it seems that educators would use technology more in their lessons. I wonder if we have bitten off more than we can chew by saying in eleven years (2020) we will accomplish the two main goals of the NETP (60% college graduates) I know rigor, relevance, and relationships are given factors in the likelier success of urban kids. ( I was not urban, but I had rigor and relevance in my education. I did not think about relationships with my teachers and I learned). I think there is more to just having technology and knowledge of technology in preparing our teachers to effectively engage our students. I think the plan is ideal though. As mentioned in the article, time is not an option and we must be aggressive and act now and deal with any hiccups along the way.

Conference Reflection 3/2
We had a conference March 2nd where we could ask questions and get clarifications of any updates or changes for our assignments for the second week. Alot of students were "administrators" and could turn on their mic but Dr. Cummings was the professor who lead the discussions and answered questions. We were blessed with news that lightened our load by not having a book review. I was relieved becasue I feel like these blogs were plenty time consuming! I did not have a video camera but I could hear and read all the conversation that was typed. I guess it is very similar to a chat room but with video. I did not have any questions because my classmates asked them all so I could just listen or read. Our conferences are very casual and bring relief because classmates ask questiosn that do not cross your mind. WE were instructed to check our emails for updates so that we do our assignments correctly.

Week2...Instructional Leadership
I am just making sure I am doing what I am doing on purpose. Technology is a weak point, I am ashamed to admit! This is going to be fun!
