Action Research Plan

My plan is aesthetically ugly when I have tried to post. So I will briefly describe it. I’ve chosen to evaluate our hallway procedure and how it affects our student’s behavior and classroom management skills of teachers. I foresee teachers not enforcing hall way pass procedure. I think teachers will make exceptions and allow students out of the classroom with having a pass. I will express the consequences for students and teachers who do not follow protocol before the start of school. The consequences for students could include detention, parental conference, or community service to school and for avid hall walkers, ISS. As for teachers, we should all accept this hallway procedure, prior to start of year, so that students know we are all are consistent in expectations. The consequence for teachers will be a verbal conversation of clarity of procedures. After continual offense, then a meeting with administrators will happen. We must adopt a mutually agreed upon policy. We must ensure that every student receives their passes. I will address these challenges through consistent, persistent, active listening when evaluating and analyzing any obstacle. I will build and maintain genuine relationships and collaborate with my peers. I will regularly reflect and make inquiries to effective and ineffective practices and then make appropriate adjustments.

  1. I really like how you focused on one "small moment." Your research has been narrowed down to focus on a very specific issue at your school. You seem to have a great plan in mind. I agree with you that prior to the school year, all teachers must agree to these procedures.

  2. TJ,
Your Action Research Plan is a great one. If we want our students to behave and do the right things, who better to provide them with good examples than the staff sharing the halls with them. It seems as though when we want to implement initiative like these, we instantly turn to consequences. You may want to add some incentives to your plan at the beginning of the year to build relationships with the staff, then when you do have to have the tougher conversations, then it will seem a little easier to point out the infractions. Great plan. Look forward to seeing more of it. Good Luck.

  3. Love the fact that you will reprimand teachers and not discuss it as an issue that all teachers are doing something wrong. I have always believed that students look to teachers for their own behavior. How will you evaluate and/ or monitor teachers?
